Mark oversees the running of Professor Michael Kingsford’s Reef and Ocean Ecology Laboratory and the Otolith Laboratory. His responsibilities include the planning of fieldwork, the collection of field data and subsequent laboratory and data analysis.
Mark has a Masters degree from the University of Otago, Department of Marine Science (New Zealand) where he worked on the exchange of nutrients and water from a bay used for the culture of mussels and salmon (Big Glory Bay, Stewart Island, New Zealand). He then assisted with the New Zealand Department of Conservation’s Undaria Eradication Project. This project involved a Vessel Monitoring Programme, Community Education Programme and the development of eradication techniques including the use of hot water blasting and the use of chemicals to sterilise wharf structures and sub-tidal rocky reefs. He has published multiple papers with Mike and other members of the laboratory.
